Two weeks ago Lizzie Carr fulfilled an ambition and finally visited New York. The 32-year-old from Purley in south London wanted to see the Statue of Liberty. Nothing unusual in that, but as she approached Liberty Island in Upper New York Bay people cheered her along the way. One woman had flown in from Virginia to applaud her arrival.
